WEEK 6 OUTLOOK
Six weeks into the 2026 WNFC season, the rankings have started to establish themselves, but the playoff picture is far from complete.
At the top, familiar contenders continue to hold position. But across the middle of the standings, the pressure continues to build as teams fight for conference playoff positioning heading into the final stretch of the regular season. And with the 2026 regular season concluding on May 16, several matchups over the next two weeks will directly shape the conference playoff structure.
Several teams have strengthened their postseason standing, but very little is officially locked in. At the top, Texas Elite, Utah, San Diego, Mississippi, and Washington continue to establish themselves as the teams to beat heading into conference playoffs. Each has built a consistent identity through physical football, disciplined defense, and the ability to control games late.
But the most competitive part of the standings may be the middle. Kansas City, Atlanta, Los Angeles, and Golden State remain deeply connected to playoff positioning conversations. In a season where rankings also influence postseason opportunities beyond division winners, every remaining game carries added importance.
THE PLAYOFF PICTURE STARTS TO TAKE SHAPE.
Perhaps the most compelling storyline entering the final two weeks: Will established WNFC contenders maintain their postseason footing, or will the newest franchise force their way into the playoff structure?

If the playoffs started today, these are the conference tournament matchups. Based on the current standings, here's how the brackets would look:

WEEK 6 VOTING BREAKDOWN

The Week 6 WNFC Rankings reflected one of the clearest examples this season of how the league’s hybrid voting model balances dominance, strength of schedule, head-to-head results, and momentum across both the owners and the independent Women’s Football Rankings Committee (WFRC).
At the top, the voters were nearly unanimous on the separation between the nation’s elite and the rest of the field. The Texas Elite Spartans remained the unanimous No. 1 team in the country after improving to 4-0 with a staggering +96 point differential through four games. Texas received 22 of the 23 first-place votes overall, sweeping every WFRC first-place ballot and earning the maximum 16 points from nearly every WNFC team voter. Their résumé includes decisive wins over fellow playoff contenders including the Mississippi Panthers, Washington Prodigy, and Chicago Winds, giving voters little reason to move the Spartans from the top spot.
The only remaining first-place vote went to the San Diego Rebellion, despite the Rebellion sitting at No. 3 overall. That vote highlighted the respect voters still have for San Diego’s strength of schedule and championship pedigree. Even with a 4-1 record, the Rebellion own victories over the Los Angeles Legends, Golden State Storm, and Las Vegas Silver Stars, while their lone loss came against a surging Kansas City Glory squad in Week 6. That result ultimately created one of the most difficult ranking debates of the week.
The Utah Falconz climbed to No. 2 at 4-0 after arguably the most impressive undefeated run outside of Texas. Utah owns wins over playoff-caliber opponents including Kansas City and Los Angeles, while consistently dominating defensively. Their Week 5 road win over the Legends appeared to solidify voter confidence, especially among WFRC members, where Utah collected multiple No. 2 overall rankings.
Behind them, the battle between Mississippi, Washington, Kansas City, and San Diego revealed just how heavily voters valued head-to-head outcomes and the strength of competition. Mississippi’s only loss came against Texas Elite, while Washington’s lone defeat also came against the Spartans. Kansas City, meanwhile, earned perhaps the single most influential result of Week 6 with a 20-14 win over San Diego, immediately validating the Glory as a legitimate championship contender in the eyes of both the WFRC and league ownership.
Still, voters stopped short of elevating Kansas City above Mississippi or Washington. Why? The answer appears to come down to consistency across the full body of work. Mississippi dominated Florida 47-0 and defeated Atlanta earlier in the season, while Washington owns commanding wins over Atlanta, Chicago, and Jersey Shore. Kansas City’s schedule includes the massive San Diego win, but also a narrow 23-14 victory over Oregon and a loss to Utah earlier in the season. The result was one of the tightest voting clusters of the year, with just nine points separating No. 4 Mississippi (291), No. 5 Washington (284), and No. 6 Kansas City (282).
Further down the rankings, voters appeared to reward teams showing upward momentum late in the season. The Atlanta Truth remained at No. 7 after back-to-back dominant wins over Florida and Jersey Shore, including a 62-2 statement victory in Week 4. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Legends and Golden State Storm continued to split voters. Los Angeles held the edge due to overall record stability and convincing wins over Seattle and Tennessee, while Golden State’s explosive offensive performances, including a 31-2 win over Las Vegas, kept the Storm firmly inside the Top 10 despite inconsistent results against elite competition.
Perhaps the most fascinating portion of the ballot came near the bottom of the rankings. Despite holding a 1-3 record, the Chicago Winds remained at No. 10 ahead of multiple 2-win teams. That decision reflected the respect voters still have for Chicago’s schedule strength. The Winds’ losses came against Texas Elite, Mississippi, and Washington, three teams currently ranked inside the Top 5, while their lone win was a dominant 33-0 performance over Tennessee. In contrast, the Florida Avengers, Oregon Ravens, and Jersey Shore Wave all picked up wins against lower-tier opponents but struggled against playoff-level competition.
Ultimately, Week 6 showed that WNFC voters are prioritizing more than just wins and losses. The rankings reflected who teams beat, how they won, when they won, and whether they proved capable of competing against championship-caliber opponents. With only two weeks remaining in the regular season, the margin between playoff positioning and playoff elimination has never been thinner, and the Week 6 voting proved that every result now carries postseason implications.
WEEK 7 AHEAD
With the tightest playoff race the WNFC has seen in years, every game now carries postseason weight. The top of the standings may be taking shape, but conference playoff positioning is still very much on the line. For teams in the middle of the rankings, this weekend is about more than momentum, it’s about proving they belong when the postseason field is finalized.
