In a move that underscores the rapid growth of women’s pro football, the Los Angeles Legends have named Andrew “AJ” Jackson as their new head coach, making him the second WNFC head coach with an NFL playing pedigree to lead a team.

This strategic hire follows the Washington Prodigy’s groundbreaking 2025 season, where former NFL running back LaMont Jordan guided his team to the WNFC IX Cup Championship game in his very first year at the helm.
AJ Jackson’s deep roots in Los Angeles run as strong as his football pedigree. A true LA native, Jackson was a star running back and defensive back at Manual Arts High School in 1982, where he first made a name for himself on the field. He continued his collegiate football career at USC before transferring to Iowa State, honing the skills that would propel him to the professional ranks.
Jackson’s NFL career included stints with the Houston Oilers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he gained firsthand experience competing at football’s highest level. That pro experience, combined with his hometown connection, makes him a natural fit to lead the Legends, a team looking to cement its status as a championship contender.
Following his playing days, Jackson embarked on a 16-year coaching journey spanning high school, college, and national-level programs. His résumé boasts leadership as the Running Back Coach for the National Football Academy (NFA), coaching and strength roles at Verbum Dei and George Washington Prep. Notably, at East State Baptist University, Jackson coached back-to-back 1,000-yard rushers, a testament to his ability to develop elite talent. Currently, as CEO and President of A thru Z Youth & Fitness and CALISPEED, he remains dedicated to training the next generation of athletes.
The Legends’ announcement comes on the heels of a respectful departure from longtime head coach Timothy Holmes, who helped guide the team to its first playoff appearance in 2025. The organization expressed gratitude for Holmes’ leadership and acknowledged the need for fresh direction as they enter their next chapter.
Jackson’s appointment highlights a growing trend within the WNFC: the infusion of coaching talent that elevate the league’s competitiveness and professionalism. Following LaMont Jordan’s success with the Prodigy, Jackson’s NFL experience brings invaluable insight and leadership to the Legends’ locker room and sidelines.
With his strong LA roots, NFL background, and deep commitment to athlete development, Coach Jackson is poised to lead the Legends to new heights.
The 2026 season promises to be an exciting one for the Legends and their fans, as they embark on this new era under Coach AJ’s leadership.
