With the cancellation of the WNFC 2020 season, our players have had to adjust not only to missing an entire season of football, but also to practicing safe distancing due to a global pandemic. We want to hear about it.
Inspired by The Players’ Tribune, The WNFC is excited to introduce a new blog series, "The Iso Journal", where we catch up with our superstars to find out how they've spent their time in isolation, what they are doing to prepare for the 2021 pre-season, and how they are remaining #WNFCproud off the field.
I am an essential worker. Everyday has been a challenge. A lot more packages are being shipped since stores have been closed. Even though we are social distancing, we work next to others who have had time off because of family members affected with the virus. Due to the packages and people I come into contact with, I take extra precaution coming home to my family.
Life got busier when my kids became virtual learners. My eight-year-old daughter kept losing focus as the work piled on. My sons were just bored and slept all day if they could. I had to check on them to make sure assignments were being done. After spring break, I became the alarm clock, the lunch lady, and the substitute teacher.
As a single parent, I want to see my kids strive to be their best. My senior struggled in school. During the last few months, I’ve had unexpected extra time at home to motivate him. He did not get to attend prom and his in-person graduation ceremony has been delayed, but he is a 2020 graduate! Everything happens for a reason. God is an on-time God.
I am staying ready for football by playing catch with my sons. I also have exercise routines of strength training, conditioning, footwork, handwork, and jogging in the neighborhood. I work out in my garage and ride bikes with my kids.
I look forward to seeing family and friends and to hugging each other without a care in the world. I have most definitely felt supported by my teammates and can’t wait to workout together again. Everyone sends messages to check on one another. We send up prayers for safety and for those who have lost loved ones.
I’m excited to watch all the WNFC teams in 2021, to witness the return of their craft on the field and the unity around the love of the sport. The WNFC has continued communication that keeps women’s football alive as they strive to put us on the map to be recognized.
Our time to shine is coming. Don’t jump ship. The grass is never greener on the other side. No time like quarantine to perfect your craft, strengthen your mental game, and get your body healthy. Continue to stay safe during these trying times. God bless us all.
